DESIGN PROBLEM

As the number of immigrants and population increases, so does the use of cars in Canada, which leads to the difficulty of parking, especially in prosperous cities like Toronto. In the future, smart cities and the concept of the Internet of things will be implemented and widely used, with a combination of the two technologies and the perfectly developed database technology, which could build a mobile app that allows the user to make a reservation for a specific parking slot in a particular location in advance. It can effectively improve the utilization rate of parking spaces, and ensure that the user when the destination will not worry because couldn't find a parking place. It provides on-demand service to the users.

BACKGROUND & CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION

With the continuous development and change of science and technology as well as cultural factors, social factors will also have great changes in the future and have different degrees of impact on our lives. In today's society, people's basic needs of goods and services have been largely satisfied, so the On-Demand society emerged as a new social structure, provides more individual customization to goods and services, and offers the users an on-demand consumer environment. This kind of social structure is still in the stage of development and exploration. Many shopping platforms and social media are currently using big data and algorithms to predict real-time and accurate personal preferences and provide users with better content and services. The on-demand service/app is the product of this social structure, attracting a large number of users

How might we design a digital platform for Toronto citizens to easily book a parking slot and better arrange their travel?

RESEARCH

Target Users

Almost all the residents of Toronto who own a vehicle are my target users, but the main user group I set for my product is millennials who own cars.

Contextual Research

With the formation of the on-demand society, the on-demand economy has been created, and this developing economic model has also brought benefits to individual lives and the overall social economy. 

 

  • According to the data, 51% of those who offered services in the on-demand economy admitted that their financial situation has improved in the past year. (User, 2020)

  • As per the forecast of Statista.com, the on-demand mobile apps are projected to generate approx 935 billion US dollars, which is double of 461 billion US dollars in 2019. (Inc, 2020)

  • According to Statista.com, U.S. consumers are spending $57.6 billion in the on-demand economy to cater to 22.4 million users annually. (Inc, 2020)
